Prototyping

What will you learn

This course is designed to guide students new to design on how to think about, plan, sketch, and design a prototype for a mobile application, website, web platform or other digital, screen-based product. Although basic in its structure, the same course material can be repeated in order to continue diving into deeper levels of study. However, the discipline as such is highly based on practice, thus the materials need to be thoroughly looked at, as well as activities repeated several times until improvement can be shown.

Ultimately, the course will guide the students from basic understanding of product design, principles of design, learning how to use the necessary software, designing each element of their product, until the final interactive prototype which can be tested and iterated upon.

Two main terms that will be utilized and clarified throughout the course, are:

UX - User Experience: the overall experience of a person using a product such as a website or computer application, especially in terms of how easy or pleasing it is to use.

UI - User Interface: the means by which the user and a computer system interact, in particular the use of input devices and software.

Professional options:

If this is your favorite field and you wish to continue your professional journey, you can work as a designer, which can be either UX designer or UI designer, as they are two separate job. Overall, this is a very visual job, so it would be useful to have a good visual imagination, pragmatism and desire to design things.
